Strikeout for Stroke - Mega Brain!

Retreat and Refresh Stroke Camp, a non-profit organization that provides camps for stroke survivors and their caregivers is excited to present its Third Annual Strike Out Stroke event at O’Brien Field, Home of the Peoria Chiefs.  The event takes place on Sunday, June 26, 2011 at 1:00 pm.  This event recognizes the determination and courage of not only stroke survivors, but also their caregivers. In addition to this recognition, the second Stroke Olympics will be conducted prior to the game starting at 9:30 am. This special event is financially supported by Petersen Health Care in cooperation with Retreat & Refresh Stroke Camp.

As part of the opening activities of the game, OSF Saint Francis Medical Center is providing the Life Flight Helicopter which will land in centerfield and bring in the Grand Prize winner of the local 5th grade Stroke Education Poster contest.  Additional winning stroke education posters from 20 5th grade classes will also be displayed at the ball park.  Prior to the ballgame the local stroke survivor and caregiver chimes choir, Chime Strokers will perform.  Gates open at 11:30 and the game begins at 1:00 with the Kane County Cougars.

In addition to all the events on that afternoon, the MEGA BRAIN will be on exhibit.  The MEGA BRAIN is over 20 feet long, 14 feet wide and 12 feet high and will be available for attendees to walk through and see the center of a brain.  This exclusive exhibit is sponsored by the Illinois Neurological Institute, Genentech and Retreat & Refresh Stroke Camp.

Through the generous financial support of Petersen Health Care and the Pilot Club, stroke survivors and caregivers obtained free tickets to all the events at Strike Out Stroke.

Each year over 700,000 Americans experience a stroke.  Although many survive, many are left with daily challenges of walking, talking, thinking and remembering.  This day is in recognition of their daily challenges that are met with patience, perseverance and commitment.  Please thank our sponsors, Petersen Health Care, OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, Illinois Neurological Institute, Pilot Club, Genentech and Retreat & Refresh Stroke Camp for making this day possible.
