Gardening at Laharpe Davier

Gardening at Laharpe Davier

Our facility is blooming with all sorts of things!  Our residents always pitch in when it’s time to plant flowers or vegetables.  On this particular day at LaHarpe Davier Health Care Center, Erin took residents out to help plant our tomato plants in the courtyard.  As you can see Emily Lair and Pauline Campbell are working hard to get those plants in.  As we always do, after the planting was finished they enjoyed some cool refreshments and took in the scenery of our beautifully landscaped courtyard.  Now we wait until the tomato’s are ripe so we can pick them and eat them right off the plant as some of our residents enjoy, or we can use them to make salsa just like last year.  Either way they cannot wait to enjoy what they grew.

National Nursing Home Week Laharpe Davier

National Nursing Home Week Laharpe Davier

To end National Nursing Home Week, LaHarpe Davier Health Care Center held a hula hoop contest among staff and residents.  This was one of our most fun and funniest activities this week.  We had music playing and hoops circling.  Each staff member gave it a shot while being timed how long they could keep going.  Our longest time was from CNA, Aurora Little, with 37 seconds.  She had some competition though as Willo Carpenter and Beth Covert was close to her time.  Resident, Colleen Douglas, gave it a shot and still had it!  She did very well and everyone cheered her on.  This was one activity the residents loved to watch as staff members made fools of themselves that is for sure.  We will do anything to put a smile on our residents’ faces here at the facility.  Throughout the day we prepared for our “Evening in the Tropics Luau”.  Decorations were hung throughout the facility, down sidewalks, and in the courtyard. Staff and residents were all decked out dressed in the clothes we had tie dyed earlier in the week. It turned into a chilly evening, but that didn’t stop our dedicated families and guests from coming to the Luau. We can always count on them.  We had music entertainment and as always great food, thanks to our dietary department.  It was a fun week and we cannot wait to do it all over again next year!

Road Trip!

Nothing keeps us down at LaHarpe Davier Health Care Center, not even a hot day like it was on June 3rd.  Temperature’s reached 90 degrees that day.  Stacy Fisher and Willo Carpenter took a van load of residents out for a cool drive on that sunny afternoon.  Before we took off too far we stopped at Casey’s for a cool treat.  The residents each got an ice cream to enjoy while riding.  We ventured out to the reservoir to see the beautiful sun shining off of the water.  While driving around we planned a picnic some time this summer out there at one of the picnic tables.  Residents that were able to come along were Don Stevens, Colleen Douglas, Alleyne Foster, Marjorie McDowell, Pauline Campbell and Minnie Terrell.  They all enjoyed themselves very much and enjoyed the ice cream even more!  It was a cool treat for a hot day.  We plan on taking more trips outside the facility more often in the days to come.
