Santa’s Workshop at Sheldon Health Care Center

The staff of Sheldon Health Care Center recently conducted Santa’s Workshop on Wednesday December 5th at Nettie Davis School in Watseka and on Wednesday December 12th at Wanda Kendall School in Watseka. Santa’s Workshop gives every child from K-3rd grade an opportunity to purchase Christmas Gifts for their family members completely on their own!! Each child is invited to bring in a small amount of money with a list of who they would like to buy for. The elves (staff) from Sheldon Health Care Center assist children with their lists, choosing gifts and even wrapping them. All of the items for the workshop are either purchased by staff, donated by friends and families or projects that are made throughout the year by the residents. Items range in price from $0.10 – $1.50 so that they are affordable for everyone! Staff from the schools report that the children “Look forward to this event” and that they are all very appreciative for the chance to participate.

Tina Gooding, Administrator stated, “Sheldon Health Care Center tries to find ways to give back to the community throughout the year and this has been a perfect way to do just that! This project was developed last year by one of our Nurses, Linda Burk. Linda has put in countless hours towards this project and along with several other devoted staff members, I would say that it has developed into an event that brings as much joy to us as it does to the children! We hope to possibly expand to the Milford elementary school next year as well. We are already busy preparing for next year’s event! Anyone interested in donating items to this event should contact myself @ 1-815-429-3522.”
